September 28, 2012

Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe that September has flown past us and October is here!  This will be a fun-filled month with many things happening.  Please see the list of important dates and things to remember for the month.

The fall fundraiser begins Monday, October 1st and runs through Wednesday, October 17th.  Look for more information from the PTO coming soon.

We will be having a bus evacuation drill on Wednesday, October 3rd.  Students will practice leaving the school bus safely in case of an emergency.  Ask your child about what they learned on this special safety morning!

There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, October 5th for Teacher In-Service

There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, October 8th in observance of Columbus Day.  School will reopen on Tuesday, October 9th.

Fire Prevention Week will be October 9th through the 12th.  The teachers will be talking about Fire Safety this week.  Be sure to ask your child what they learned about fire safety.

Norma School will have School Spirit Day on Friday, October 12th.  We encourage all students to wear blue and white or their Norma shirt on this day.

The Week of Respect is October 15 through the 19th.  We will be having an assembly on Wednesday, October 17th to discuss being a good friend and how to treat others with respect.

The PTO Room Parent Round-Up will be held on Tuesday, October 16th at Olivet School beginning at 6:30 pm.  This is a great time to meet other parents and to get involved in your child’s classroom.  The PTO meeting will immediately follow.

There will be a Board of Education meeting on Thursday, October 18th beginning at 7 p.m. in the Schalick High School Media Center.

There will be an Early Dismissal on Friday, October 26th for Teacher In-Service.  Please be sure to consult the abbreviated schedule or contact Norma School

On Wednesday, October 31st, we will be having some activities in the classrooms to celebrate Harvest and Halloween.  More information will be coming home later this month.  As with all activities, please contact your child’s teacher if you plan to send in a special snack.  We have many allergies and it is critical for the safety of the students that the snacks are monitored very closely.  Thank you in advance for helping to preserve the safety of our students as they enjoy special events.

With the weather changing, we encourage parents to send their children to school with appropriate attire.  Students are going outside to play and jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, sneakers, and other outerwear items are important.  Be sure that your child has the necessary items to be outside on cooler days and that you have labeled your child’s belongings.

As always, should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Norma School at 856-358-6904.  Have a great month!
